Offenbach (dpa/lhe) - The Hessians have to sweat a lot this Tuesday: The German Weather Service (DWD) announced up to 40 degrees for the Rhine-Main area and the Bergstraße. This was announced by the meteorologists in Offenbach in the morning. In the other regions, maximum temperatures between 35 and 39 degrees are expected.

The weather service put the forest fire risk index for parts of the Rhine-Main area and southern Hesse on Tuesday at the highest level of 5. According to the experts, there is a “very high” risk of forest fires there. Level 4 applies to the other regions in Hesse, i.e. a “high” risk. Level 3 only applies to the Wasserkuppe.

Wednesday night is expected to remain mostly clear and dry. According to the DWD, some clouds are gathering in the west in the early morning. Showers and thunderstorms are expected from the afternoon, some of which can be heavier with heavy rain, hail and squalls. The DWD speaks of "local storms". Wednesday also remains hot: the maximum temperatures are between 32 and 37 degrees. On Thursday it should cool down noticeably with isolated showers and thunderstorms - around ten degrees less are expected.
