Hesse: Hirschhagen tunnel is passable again

Fulda (dpa/lhe) - The Hirschhagen tunnel on Autobahn 44 in northern Hesse, which was closed a few days after it opened, is open again. "Both tunnel tubes are freely passable again," said the federal highway company in Fulda on Tuesday. The tunnel is in "normal operation".

The 4,200 meter long structure between Helsa and Hessisch Lichtenau was opened to traffic on October 7 after nine years of construction. The tunnel was then closed last Wednesday due to faults in the fire alarm system. According to the information, the reason for this was the cable of the floor lighting, which generated interference waves. Some of these have been relocated.

According to Autobahn GmbH, the Hirschhagen Tunnel is Hesse's longest and Germany's second-longest road tunnel. Only the Rennsteig Tunnel (A71) between Erfurt and Schweinfurt, which is 7,916 meters long, is longer.
