Hesse: Majority for the deselection of Feldmann is emerging

Frankfurt/Main (dpa/lhe) - In the referendum on the deselection of Frankfurt's Lord Mayor Peter Feldmann, there is a clear majority against the SPD politician. However, after about three-quarters of the voting districts were counted on Sunday, it was still unclear whether the second condition for voting out would also be met. The yes votes of 152,455 of all those entitled to vote are necessary, only then would Feldmann be deselected.

According to the preliminary interim results, which the city published on the Internet in the evening, a good 94 percent voted in three quarters of the voting districts to vote Feldmann out of office, which corresponds to more than 136,000 yes votes. On Sunday, more than half a million Frankfurt residents had the opportunity to decide whether the head of town hall should be voted out of office.

The mayor has been under pressure for many months. In addition, the 64-year-old made repeated slips and playful sympathies. He is currently in the dock of the Frankfurt district court on suspicion of corruption. It is about his close ties to Arbeiterwohlfahrt (Awo). Feldman denies the allegations.
