Hesse: Medical Association welcomes planned relaxation of quarantine

Frankfurt (dpa/lhe) - The Hessen State Medical Association has welcomed the announced relaxation of the corona quarantine rules. "In view of the declining number of infections and the predominantly mild course of the disease, we should start treating infections with omicron like another infectious disease," said President Edgar Pinkowski in Frankfurt on Friday.

The CEO of the Frankfurt University Hospital, Jürgen Graf, also called the planned lifting of the general obligation to isolate a “sensible step”. Graf heads the planning staff for inpatient care Covid-19 of the state of Hesse.

"We have learned a lot over the past two and a half years with regard to the transmission rates of Sars-Cov-2 within hospitals," explained Graf. "Our data show that the risk of transmission is very low when there is mutual protection through surgical mouth and nose protection."

Pinkowski welcomed relying more on people's personal responsibility and no longer imposing a five-day isolation requirement. "Anyone who is ill stays at home, as with other infectious diseases, and those who feel well and are symptom-free can work," he explained.

Both doctors urgently called for flu vaccinations, since the coming influenza season may be more severe than in the past two and a half years.
