Hesse: prime minister election: all of black and green here

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - CDU and Greens have cleared an important hurdle for the election of the new Prime Minister of Hesse: All members of the black-green government factions are healthy and present in the Hessian state parliament, said the faction leaders Ines Claus (CDU) and Mathias Wagner ( Greens) on Tuesday in Wiesbaden shortly before the parliamentary vote.

Since the governing coalition of Christian Democrats and Greens in Hesse has a parliamentary majority of only one mandate, the presence of all MPs is of great importance. A quorum of 69 of the 137 votes is required for voting. Black-Green can therefore not afford to deviate.

The still incumbent President of the State Parliament, Boris Rhein, is to be elected the new Prime Minister and thus the successor to the long-standing Prime Minister Volker Bouffier (both CDU). After visiting the two government factions, Rhein said he was very confident and optimistic about the outcome of the election.

Bouffier was said goodbye to the Bundeswehr on Monday evening with a big ceremony with musical honors and more than 600 guests at Biebrich Castle.
