Hesse: Route after freight train accident near Münster free from Thursday

Münster (dpa/lhe) - Almost a month after the accident of two freight trains near Münster in southern Hesse with a fatally injured engine driver, the route should be fully accessible again from this Thursday. The route has been extensively repaired in recent weeks, said a railway spokeswoman on Tuesday. The overhead line had been renewed in both directions over a length of 1,500 meters. In addition, 300 sleepers have been replaced and 1,400 meters of new track have been laid.

In the accident on May 19, one of the trains had stopped on the route due to a defective catenary and the other train had run into it. The 49-year-old engine driver was reportedly trapped in the run-up and derailed locomotive and died.
