Hesse: Students as vocational school teachers: the project is being expanded

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The state of Hesse wants to attract more master's students as future vocational school teachers and is expanding a pilot project for this purpose. The Ministry of Education explained on Wednesday in Wiesbaden that the demand for well-trained teachers is particularly high at vocational schools. From the coming winter semester onwards, the offer of the so-called Master's grant will also be aimed at students in the fields of computer science and chemical engineering in Darmstadt and the field of health in Kassel.

Since the last winter semester, master’s students in metal and electrical engineering who can imagine becoming teachers can apply for funding at both universities. In addition to practical phases, the program also provides for a fixed net salary of around 1,300 euros. In addition to their theoretical training at the university, the participants attend a vocational school one day a week, in the first semester for internships, in later semesters for supervised and independent teaching. The lessons are accompanied by experienced trainers. 20 students are funded per location and year.

Interested bachelor's graduates can apply for admission to the master's program from the beginning of October to the end of November. Funding begins on February 1, 2023.
