Hesse: VGH: arms exchange in Gießen may be held

Gießen/Kassel (dpa/lhe) - The city of Gießen has finally failed in court with its action against an arms exchange. The Hessian Administrative Court (VGH) in Kassel announced its final decision on Wednesday for the city's fears to have no sound basis. In addition, a ban on the permit would only be considered as a last resort. In order to rule out a threat to public safety and order, effective conditions and access restrictions would have to be issued. The arms exchange is planned from November 17th to 19th in the Hessenhallen.

The city of Gießen had prohibited the organizer from applying for a "trade law assessment". One of the reasons given was that weapons could also be sold at the stock exchange - this was illegal without a special permit. In addition, it is to be expected that a large number of Nazi memorabilia would be offered. The organizer replied that the exhibitors had been made aware of the restrictions on weapons and the criminal liability of exhibiting Nazi memorabilia.

Last week, the city had already failed with its urgent application to the Giessen Administrative Court. She lodged an appeal, which the Administrative Court has now rejected.
