"Willi Weitzel has succeeded in creating a unique media cosmos around the reporter Willi, who is exemplary for the development in the German children's media sector," said the academy on Tuesday in Volkach in Lower Franconia. The 50-year-old is being honored for his comprehensive and varied work in children's media. The author and producer is one of the most successful reporters in the German children's media landscape.

The native of Marburg, who has his office in Herrsching am Ammersee, is known for, among other things, the report series "Willi wants to know" on Bavarian radio. "Willi Weitzel asked his way through all areas of children's lives," according to the Academy.

The Grand Prize, endowed with 5,000 euros, has been awarded annually since 1976 as an award for a complete work or for outstanding work in the field of children's and youth literature.

This time the Volkacher Taler goes to the scientist Petra Josting (Bielefeld), who has been setting the course for decades in the field of children's and youth media and didactics.
