Los Angeles Police Department confirmed George's death. Michaela Okland, his She Rates Dogs host, also confirmed George's passing.
"I would prefer you guys here [sic] this to me than a news story. Okland posted a tweet saying that Mat was hit and run and died last night. "I don’t really have any words at the moment. According to the LAPD, George was struck by a white BMW driver around 2:20 AM. At the time of the collision, he was walking southbound on Croft Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk. The pedestrian was declared dead by paramedics at the scene.
George graduated from Arizona State University. He is also well-known for his Instagram and Twitter accounts which were shared under the handle @matchu_chutrain. His podcast with Okland was about "the journey, the mishaps and dating men." It also touched on many trending topics and offered general advice.
George is remembered for his kindness, vulnerability, and sense of humor. The plans for a memorial are not yet known.
George's murder remains under investigation. Beverly Grove hit-and run detectives are asking anyone with information to call the LAPD's West Traffic Division at 213-473-0234 and Crime Stoppers at 800-222-877.
