Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Around 10,000 fathers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania raise their children alone. The state's statistical office pointed this out on Father's Day or Men's Day on Thursday. In total, a good 156,000 men lived in a household with children in 2020, according to the office on Wednesday. Around 147,000 men therefore shared their parental role in a partnership.

According to the statisticians, 793,537 men lived in the Northeast at the end of 2020 - making up 49 percent of the total population. Their share is highest in the 40 to 45 age group at 53 percent. For men over the age of 45, the following applies: the older, the less they are represented in the respective age groups. Among the over 90-year-olds, the proportion of men is only 25 percent. There is a surplus of men among the up to 60-year-olds.
