Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Mecklenburg State Theater opens new venues

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The Mecklenburg State Theater will open two new venues in the coming season. The former printing works of the "Schweriner Volkszeitung" in the Großer Dreesch prefabricated building area - called M*Halle - is to serve as a replacement for the power plant on the Pfaffenteich in the city center for several years from October, as general director Hans-Georg Wegner said in Schwerin on Thursday . The E-Werk is being renovated.

In Parchim, the new theater building in the Kulturmühle of the district town is scheduled to open on April 1, 2023. It replaces the previous venue on Blutstrasse, some of which has been closed by the building authorities for a long time. The Staatstheater in Schwerin merged with the Theater Parchim in 2016. The youth section of the Mecklenburg State Theater is based in Parchim.

In particular, the M*Halle on the Großer Dreesch is intended to appeal to new audience groups that have previously had little contact with theater or concerts. "We invite our audience to walk new paths with us and to rediscover what makes our human existence: togetherness, compassion, sensitivity to one another," said Wegner.

The director announced 38 premieres and more than 30 concerts. Among them is a world premiere of "Müller: A Chronicle in Six Decades" by Sascha Hawemann about the playwright Heiner Müller (1929-1995). The spectacle wants to start the 2022/23 season on September 30th. The day after, the new venue on the Dreesch is to be opened with Schiller's "Kabale und Liebe".

Thanks to a newly founded orchestra academy, the Staatskapelle, which has been reinforced with young professionals since August, begins on October 3rd with a major concert: Anton Bruckner's 8th Symphony. The music theater starts with Richard Wagner's "Tannhäuser" in the big house. A total of six new productions are planned, including two world premieres.

The Mecklenburg State Theater has six sections - including the Fritz Reuter stage, the only professional Platt ensemble in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It celebrates its first premiere of the new season on September 2nd with "Oh, wo schön is Panama" in the Schwerin Zoo.

The ballet will first present the evening "Dancing Souls" on October 28th in the Great House. A total of three new productions and an international ballet gala as part of the Castle Festival in summer 2023 have been announced. Admission prices should remain stable - despite price increases in all areas, as it was said.
