Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Around 1,300 people protest against energy policy

Rostock/Waren/Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, around 1,300 people protested against further arms deliveries in the Ukraine war and the federal government's energy policy. As police spokesman said on Tuesday, there were demonstrations in 16 cities the night before, including eleven municipalities in the east of the country. Most participants were counted by the police with 300 in Rostock and more than 200 people each in Neubrandenburg and Waren an der Müritz.

Speakers at the demos mainly criticized the approval for the delivery of battle tanks to Ukraine, the police said. Instead of working more diplomatically to end the fighting, a further escalation level in the war triggered by Russia is threatening. The cost of living, which has risen as a result of energy policy and sanctions against Russia, is a problem for many people and companies in the East.

There were also demonstrations in Wismar, Parchim, Greifswald, Grimmen, Pasewalk and Neustrelitz. According to the police, all meetings remained without significant disturbances. A week ago, around 2,000 participants came together in such protests.
