Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Burglars steal GPS technology from tractors

Crivitz (dpa/mv) - In a farm in Crivitz (Ludwigslust-Parchim), unknown persons stole computer technology from four tractors. As a police spokesman said on Thursday, the agricultural machinery was in a locked hall that was probably broken into on Thursday night. The loot worth tens of thousands of euros included GPS modules and systems that had been dismantled.

The police are investigating the particularly serious case of theft. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, such, presumably targeted, thefts of agricultural machinery occur again and again. In May, for example, six tractors were looted at several locations near Grimmen (West Pomerania-Rügen) and damage of 200,000 euros was reported.

In some cases, however, burglars fled after the alarm systems went off. Such cases show that farms should definitely invest in camera technology, alarm systems and appropriate fences and locks, the police said.
