Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: campsite operators expect good Pentecost business

Many bookings, full places: The campsite operators are looking forward to the Pentecost weekend. In many places the places are fully booked. But there are still problems in the industry.

Schwerin/Rostock (dpa/mv) - The campsite operators in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are confident about the first seasonal highlight of the year. "We just noticed at Pentecost that the places are well booked," said Christin Lemcke, office manager of the state association of the camping industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Many campsites are already fully booked, but there are still spaces available on some. "We assume that we will reach the level before Corona. The high point of the season will go very well."

Gunter Riechey's campsites are also getting crowded. "At Pentecost, all places are largely booked," said the managing director of Haveltourist, which operates eight campsites in the Mecklenburg Lake District. Its 1600 parking spaces are all occupied.

Spontaneous vacationers can use the "Camfindo" homepage to see which pitches are still available. There are also individual spots on the Natur Camping site on Usedom. Nevertheless, the booking situation is very good. "Due to the good weather, we expect many spontaneous arrivals at short notice," said Jana Freitag from Natur Camping Usedom. According to the German Weather Service, clear and dry weather is forecast for Saturday and Whitsunday in particular.

Despite the good booking situation, the campsite operators are struggling with problems. "We already have significant cost increases, especially in the energy sector. But that applies to all areas, including food," said Riechey. The general price increases are a problem, also confirmed on Friday. "We ourselves have not currently adjusted the prices for the main season again, but we will have to make an initial price adjustment from autumn and then adjust them again in 2023."
