Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: construction work in Rostock: problems for all road users

Rostock (dpa/mv) - Due to the demolition of the Goetheplatz bridge in the southern part of Rostock, the Hanseatic townspeople and commuters will face considerable problems in the next two weeks. The city announced on Wednesday that rail replacement services would be set up for three tram lines as early as Friday.

The two-week full closure of the southern ring at the bridge for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, begins on Monday. While detour routes are signposted for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists can reach their destination either through the main station or the tunnel along Schwaaner Landstraße.

The city recommended that all road users adapt to the changed conditions early on by choosing the mode of transport and the route. The detour route will not be able to accommodate the volume of traffic without traffic jams and congestion.

The old bridge from 1966 was showing its age and will therefore be replaced by a new building. The construction work had already started in early May. Around 31 million euros are to be invested by the end of 2024.
