Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Deadline for property tax returns ends

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - The deadline for submitting the property tax return ends on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Finance, about 30 percent were still missing last week. However, more explanations had recently been received.

According to the information, around 446,000 property tax declarations were submitted electronically to the tax offices by last Thursday, which corresponded to an input rate of 62 percent. The paper-only declarations have not yet been counted. The ministry estimates that they could increase the intake rate by five to ten percent.

The federal government had already extended the deadline for submitting the documents from October 31, 2022 to January 31, 2023. There is no further extension. If taxpayers can foresee that they will not be able to submit the property tax return on time by January 31, they should apply for an extension of the deadline, the Association of Taxpayers recommends.

Even the state does not manage to submit the property tax return for all properties in the specified time. According to the Ministry of Finance, there are legal problems in more than ten percent of state-owned land and forest areas. In some cases, it is currently not possible to submit a declaration, for example due to ongoing land regulation procedures.
