Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: hiker gets lost in the swamp: cell phone battery saves her

Buschvitz (dpa/mv) - A powerful mobile phone battery saved a woman from an emergency who got lost while hiking on the island of Rügen. As a police spokeswoman said on Tuesday in Stralsund, the incident occurred on Tuesday night near Buschvitz, north of Bergen (West Pomerania-Rügen).

The 34-year-old woman from the region called the police around 2 a.m. because she got lost in swampy terrain. According to her own statements, the Rüganerin had already been on the road for six hours at the time. Her cell phone battery had only ten percent capacity left. Nevertheless, rescue workers managed to locate the location not far from Lake Ossen via cell phone.

The woman was able to be freed from her plight about an hour and a half later. She got so lost in the mud that she had to be freed from the swampy ground. Her car was about three miles away. The woman was taken to hospital in an ambulance because of mild hypothermia. The Ossensee lies west of the Großer Jasmunder Bodden.
