Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: More than 500 apartments are demolished in MV: the country pays with it

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Despite the challenge of accommodating thousands of refugees from Ukraine, more than 500 apartments will be demolished in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania this year. The demolition of 526 apartments is financially supported by the federal and state governments, as announced by the Ministry of the Interior in Schwerin on Wednesday. The focus is on Schwerin with the prefabricated housing areas of Neu-Zippendorf and Krebsförden as well as Pasewalk and Grimmen.

According to the information, a total of 3.3 million euros will flow into the demolition of 526 apartments from housing companies in seven cities and municipalities in the country this year. In the state capital alone, 252 are to be removed, in Pasewalk 144, in Ueckermünde 40 and in Grimmen 39.

The affected apartments are said to be no longer needed. Only municipalities with more than five percent vacancies could be included in the dismantling program.
