Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Second heating cost subsidy for 24,500 households in MV

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Around 24,500 households entitled to housing benefit in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania receive an additional heating cost subsidy. With the payment starting on Tuesday, more than twelve million euros would be enough, said Interior and Building Minister Christian level (SPD) on Monday in Schwerin. To cushion the massive increase in energy costs, one-person households would receive housing benefit of 415 euros. For two-person households there is 540 euros, for each additional household member an additional 100 euros. "It is not necessary to submit an application. The payment is made automatically," emphasized level. It is fully funded by the federal government.

According to the level, the amounts have been increased significantly compared to the heating cost subsidy from the summer of last year. In July, single people received 270 euros, two-person households 350 euros. The prerequisite for the payment of the second subsidy is that housing benefit was drawn for at least one month in the period from September 1st to December 31st, 2022. Households whose entitlement to housing benefit had not yet been decided in the relevant period received the second heating cost subsidy later if eligibility for it was determined. "The payment date is always the last bank working day of the month," Level explained.
