Wittenburg (dpa/mv) - The winter sports season for recreational athletes begins in the Wittenburg ski hall (Ludwigslust-Parchim district) on Saturday. Irrespective of the increased energy prices, the operators are confident about the future. The Alpin Center relied on alternative energy sources at an early stage. That's now paying off, a spokesman said. After the roof of the hall, a large part of the surrounding open space was also equipped with solar panels this year, so that an output of 10 megawatts is now available. This means that the electricity required for the cooling systems can be generated itself.
The Alpin-Center operated by the Dutch Van der Valk Group was only able to open to a limited extent in the past winters due to the Corona regulations and as a result also had to cope with economic losses. In the time before that, the ski hall, which is often used by professional ski racers for training in the summer months, had around 100,000 visitors a year, according to the company.
