Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: thieves plunder solar park transformer houses

Grimmen (dpa/mv) - In Western Pomerania, thieves stole components from a solar park and caused around 60,000 euros in damage. As a police spokesman said on Tuesday, a large fenced area near Appelshof near Grimmen (West Pomerania-Rügen) is affected. According to initial investigations, the fence and transformer building there were probably broken into over the weekend, and electrical components were removed and stolen. The incident in the seven-megawatt park was noticed by the operators on Sunday and then reported.

According to the police, it was the first major theft in 2023 at solar parks in the northeast. According to preliminary information, the State Criminal Police Office in MV counted around 24 such solar park cases in 2022 with a total damage of around one million euros. That was about 20 percent fewer cases than in 2021, but a similar number to the annual average over the past five years.
