Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - 32 villages in North Rhine-Westphalia qualified for the decision in the state competition "Our village has a future" this year. Among them are eleven each from the Sauerland and Siegerland and from the Cologne government district, as the NRW Ministry of the Environment and Agriculture announced on Monday.
The village communities made an important contribution to making rural areas fit for the future, explained Minister Lutz Lienenkämper. According to the CDU politician, where there are good transport connections, rural areas are developing into sought-after residential locations. On the other hand, many regions far away from the metropolitan areas are struggling with infrastructure problems and increasing vacancies.
