North Rhine-Westphalia: Collision when overtaking: Five injured in an accident on the A46

A failed overtaking attempt on the A46 in the Heinsberg district led to an accident with several injuries. One of the drivers is taken to a clinic by rescue helicopter.

Erkelenz (dpa / lnw) - When an attempt to overtake failed, five people were injured on the A46 near Erkelenz (Heinsberg district), some of them seriously. In the accident late on Saturday evening, a 25-year-old wanted to overtake a car driving in front of him and crashed into the car of a 27-year-old woman when changing to the left lane for unknown reasons.

As the police announced on Monday, the woman's vehicle was thrown to the right by the impact, collided with another car and finally came to a stop in the right lane. The 25-year-old's car crashed into the central barrier.

Another driver's car was thrown off the road, overturned and came to a stop in an adjacent field. Firefighters extricated the seriously injured man from his vehicle. A rescue helicopter then took him to a clinic. Another occupant of his vehicle was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Two other people involved in the accident and the 25-year-old suffered minor injuries. The police assumed that three people were injured on Sunday night, but corrected their statements in a later message.

The 27-year-old driver was not injured. But because she had presented the officers with a suspected forged driver's license, separate criminal proceedings were initiated against the woman.
