North Rhine-Westphalia: Driver rams police motorcycle: officer slightly injured

Radevormwald/Wuppertal (dpa/lnw) - While fleeing a control, a motorist rammed a police motorcycle near Wuppertal and later dragged the police officer along for several meters. The police said on Wednesday that he had tried to get to the vehicle key through the open side window. But the driver accelerated sharply. The police officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

He had wanted to check the car, which was occupied by two people, on a narrow connecting path between Radevormwald and Wuppertal, as it was said. However, the driver reversed and sped away. The driver, who is estimated to be around 35 years old, stopped later, drove towards the police motorcycle and rammed it. The driver fell. Shortly thereafter, he then tried to get to the vehicle key through the open side window.

The search for the fleeing driver was initially unsuccessful.
