North Rhine-Westphalia: First session: Members' allowances should increase

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the first session of the newly elected state parliament this Wednesday, an increase in the parliamentary allowances is on the agenda. According to a template published on Tuesday, their monthly payments will increase by around 237 to just under 9840 euros on July 1st. The contribution to financing old-age and survivor benefits increases by 3.5 percent to around 2539 euros.

The President of the State Parliament informs the plenum about the basis for the new diets. The adjustment is based on calculations by the State Statistical Office on general wage and salary developments and changes in the cost of living and retail prices in the previous year.

In recent years, there has only been a formal vote on the annual adjustments at the beginning of an election period. If the new state parliament also agrees to this procedure, the increases in the following years will take place more or less automatically with the notification of the new figures.
