Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the past year, the number of treatments in North Rhine-Westphalian hospitals has increased. In 2021, 4.1 million patients were treated in the 335 hospitals - that was 2.2 percent more than in the previous year, as reported by the IT.NRW statistics office on Friday. However, the number of inpatient treatments - calculated here compared to 2019 - fell by 560,000 cases by 12.0 percent.

A total of 114,156 beds were available in the North Rhine-Westphalian hospitals in 2021. That was 0.7 percent less than in 2020 and 3.2 percent less than before the corona pandemic in 2019. According to the statistics, occupancy remained almost unchanged - with bed use of 68.6 percent last year (2020: 67, 0 percent).

In 2021, 46,647 doctors were employed full-time in the clinics - an increase of 2.0 percent. An increase of 2.5 percent to 116,146 people was mentioned for employees in the nursing service.
