Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - From January, parents of daycare children in North Rhine-Westphalia will be given nasal instead of lollipop tests so that they can test the little ones for the corona virus at home. According to recent findings, the nasal tests reveal infections more reliably than saliva swabs, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Family Affairs on Thursday. The tests no longer have to be stuck far up the nose, a swab from the front area of the sniffing nose is sufficient.
Since the end of the summer holidays, parents of daycare children in North Rhine-Westphalia have been given eight self-tests per month so that they can test their offspring at home on a voluntary basis.
There had been a tender for the supply of nasal tests. According to the Ministry of Family Affairs, a product from the Chinese manufacturer New Gene (Hangzhou) Bioengineering has now been awarded the contract. Delivery of the tests to facilities will begin in January.
