North Rhine-Westphalia: People want to save energy: Bad is considering "shower tariff"

Herne (dpa / lnw) - 30 minutes for 1.50 euros - in the "Wananas" family and leisure pool in Herne, those responsible are considering the introduction of a so-called shower tariff. In view of the rising energy costs, many households are saving, said Hans-Lothar Przybyl, managing director of the Herner baths company, on Friday. "You make the water colder, you worry about how high the additional payments will be. That's why we want to offer people a secure framework." The tariff could be introduced from January, on December 1st the supervisory board of the bathing company should decide on it. The WAZ had previously reported on it.

Basically, it is an "Ulta short tariff," explained Przybyl. For 1.50 euros you should be able to use the bathroom for half an hour. If you find the time, you can not only shower and blow dry, but also swim a few lengths. According to a sample calculation with the "shower calculator" of the NRW consumer center, you can shower at home for just under 10 minutes for that much money (energy prices from June 2022). "I think it will become more and more important in the future to offer a warm-up place, and that could be one of those," said Przybyl.

The offer should probably be more worthwhile for people who lived within walking distance of the bath, he said. According to the first media reports about the offer, some people were already equipped with plastic bags and ready to shower at the entrance. "This tells us that we've hit a nerve," said Przybyl. The idea actually came about because of the Cranger fair, which takes place in the immediate vicinity, he said. Showmen have been offered a shower tariff for many years.
