North Rhine-Westphalia: Police officer injured in traffic control

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - A driver drove away during a traffic check in Bonn and hit a policewoman. As a police spokesman said on Friday, the man is now under investigation. He initially stopped during the check on Thursday evening - but when the officers approached him, he accelerated his car. Before he drove away at high speed, he caught the 26-year-old policewoman. She was injured and taken to the hospital. So far, the police have been searching unsuccessfully for the driver, who, according to initial findings, was traveling in a rental car. Witnesses are now being sought.
