Langenfeld (dpa / lnw) - Several residents were slightly injured in a major fire in a municipal asylum seeker accommodation in Langenfeld near Düsseldorf. According to the fire brigade and police, the heavily damaged building is not habitable for the time being, as the authorities reported on Saturday. The more than 50 residents were accommodated in other accommodations in the area.
According to an initial assessment by the fire brigade, the fire apparently broke out in the generally accessible area of the municipal accommodation late Friday evening and then spread to the roof structure. The fire brigade and police reported three people who had been treated on an outpatient basis. Smoke inhalation was suspected.
According to the first information available to the police, a person who tried to save himself from the fire by jumping from the first floor was also injured. According to the fire department, there were no serious injuries. A spokesman for the Langenfeld fire department told the German Press Agency that 110 firefighters and 30 rescue service employees were involved in the more than three-hour operation.
The cause of the fire is still unclear. The police are investigating. A spokeswoman said there was no evidence of a crime.
