North Rhine-Westphalia: Thunderstorms move over North Rhine-Westphalia after a sunny day

Essen (dpa / lnw) - The people of North Rhine-Westphalia can look forward to a sunny Wednesday. It should remain sunny and dry throughout the day, with a few cumulus clouds joining in the afternoon, according to the German Weather Service (DWD). The temperatures should therefore rise to 31 to 34 degrees in light winds, and up to 28 degrees at high altitudes. According to the DWD, it will remain slightly cloudy and dry overnight.

According to the forecast, the weather will initially continue to be friendly on Thursday, but high cloud fields will appear from midday. In the course of the afternoon, strong thunderstorms with severe weather potential set in, locally limited with heavy rain, hail and storms. The temperatures are with weak to moderate wind at a maximum of 36 degrees, in the higher mountains at 30 degrees. In the night to Friday it remains very cloudy; strong thunderstorms are possible.

On Friday the sun will alternate with showery rain and thunderstorms, and the DWD cannot rule out local storms with heavy rain. The temperatures drop significantly to 22 to 26 degrees, on the Kahler Asten even to 19 degrees. The wind will be weak to moderate, with thunderstorms isolated gusts of wind possible. On Saturday night the sky will be cloudy, but it will remain dry.
