Rége-Jean Page rejects: "Bridgerton" continues without a fan favorite

For a short time, "Bridgerton" fans are hoping for a comeback from Simon Basset in the new season. But actor Rége-Jean Page has finally denied the rumors: the popular series will probably continue without him.

Damper for all "Bridgerton" fans: Rége-Jean Page, fan favorite of the first season, will definitely not return. "No, I'm not coming back to the series," he explained on Instagram. "The newspapers came up with that."

A few days ago there were rumors about a possible comeback. Insiders have told The Sun that Page could be seen in his role as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, in season three. Talks between the series creators and the actor are said to have taken place. Rége-Jean Page has now taken the wind out of the sails of these speculations once and for all.

The "Bridgerton" fans could still be happy about the reason for his Instagram post: In the accompanying photo he can be seen with his colleague Jonathan Bailey, who plays Simon Basset's brother-in-law Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix series. "The boys are back in town," Page wrote. "We had the best and most stylish reunion I've had in a long time, with some really excellent Italian coffee and sunshine." The two actors make a stylish appearance in the photo: in dark outfits and sneakers, they casually look at the camera through their sunglasses.

The Netflix series "Bridgerton" is based on the novel series of the same name by US author Julie Pottinger, who writes under the pseudonym Julia Quinn. Based on the books, one of the eponymous siblings is the focus of each season. After Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), who becomes Simon Basset's wife in the course of the first episodes, was the focus of the first season, the second season dealt with the love life of her brother Anthony.

Season three will be all about Penelope Featherington, aka gossip expert Lady Whistledown, played by Nicola Coughlan. The actress revealed this in an Instagram post in mid-May. The third season will not follow the order of the original novel. After Daphne and Anthony Bridgerton, it actually focuses on the second oldest Bridgerton child, Benedict (Luke Thompson).
