Saxony: 2022 again Christmas vespers at the Dresden Frauenkirche

Dresden (dpa/sn) - After a two-year forced break due to Corona, there will be a traditional Christmas Vespers in front of the Dresden Frauenkirche again in 2022. The funding company announced on the website of the Frauenkirche Foundation that, in addition to Bishop Tobias Bilz, Saxony's Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer and Dresden's Lord Mayor Dirk Hilbert are expected. The musical direction is in the hands of trumpeter Ludwig Güttler, who was one of the initiators of the reconstruction of the late baroque church destroyed in World War II and who collected donations for it with concerts.

The tradition was still in 1993 during the reconstruction after the bombing of 13/14. February 1945 - in front of the altar that had just been uncovered in the rubble. Until 2019, tens of thousands from Germany and abroad came to the event every year to sing Advent and Christmas carols together in the open air. In 2020 this was only possible to a limited extent due to the corona pandemic, in 2021 it took place without visitors in the church - this time only wearing a mask is recommended.
