Aschersleben (dpa/sa) - Around 460 police candidates from the Saxony-Anhalt Police University of Applied Sciences were sworn in on Friday in Aschersleben (Salzland district). This was announced by the Ministry of the Interior. According to this, around 290 men and women are starting their training and 170 candidates are starting their studies. This exceeded the original target of 440 applicants.

Police training usually lasts two and a half years. After graduation, these candidates will enter the middle service. A degree usually lasts three years and puts the graduates in the higher service. According to the information provided, the Saxony-Anhalt Police University of Applied Sciences offers both training paths.

According to the ministry, the number of police officers has been increasing again since 2019. The increase in staff is to be continued in the years to come. According to the Ministry of the Interior, campaigns should primarily target 16- to 37-year-olds.
