Thuringia: Adams supports a nationwide ban on deportations to Iran

Erfurt (dpa/th) - Because of the protests in Iran, Thuringia's Migration Minister Dirk Adams (Greens) wants to campaign for a nationwide ban on deportations to the country. The current situation is "catastrophic" for the people of Iran and will not improve in the foreseeable future, Adams said on Friday. According to Adams, there have been no deportations to Iran from Thuringia in recent years. "I will stick to that and will not allow deportations to Iran in the future." Lower Saxony's interior minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) had previously announced that he wanted to campaign for a general freeze on deportations at the next interior ministers' conference and submit a corresponding proposal for a resolution. Interior Minister Nancy Faser (SPD) also called for a nationwide halt to deportations to Iran because of the violent crackdown on demonstrators.
