Saxony-Anhalt: Corona incidence in Saxony-Anhalt almost unchanged

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The corona infection process in Saxony-Anhalt has hardly changed within a week. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) registered 263.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in the country for the past seven days, as the RKI dashboard showed on Thursday. A week earlier, the incidence was 264.9 with a downward trend. Nationwide, the seven-day incidence on Thursday was 262.3. However, this information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections.

Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

Within Saxony-Anhalt, the registered incidence of infection differs significantly. According to the RKI, the incidence was highest in the Altmarkkreis Salzwedel on Thursday at 414.7. In the district of Wittenberg, on the other hand, the lowest value in the country was found with 156.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week.

According to the RKI, 911,845 infections have been registered nationwide since the beginning of the pandemic. The statistics show a total of 5912 deaths in connection with a corona infection in the country. Saxony-Anhalt has around 2.17 million inhabitants.
