Saxony-Anhalt: FDP complains about deficits in digitization at universities

Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - The FDP parliamentary group has complained about deficits in the digitization of Saxony-Anhalt's universities. "All in all, there is still a clear need for investment - in infrastructure and in staff," said university policy spokesman Konstantin Pott of the German Press Agency.

As can be seen from the response of the state government to a small inquiry from Potts, almost all rooms at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg are equipped with digital work equipment such as projectors, microphones and screens.

However, some of the other universities have a lot of catching up to do. For example, 75 rooms at the Otto von Guericke University in Magdeburg are not yet equipped. According to the Ministry of Science, the procurement costs for this are 4.9 million euros. At the Anhalt University of Applied Sciences, 82 rooms have to be retrofitted, at the Harz University of Applied Sciences there are 50.

The state has already made several million euros available to the universities this year for the expansion of media technology in lecture halls, seminar and conference rooms. However, Pott also sees further deficits in other areas. So far, the digital student file has only been introduced at the Burg Giebichenstein Art Academy in Halle and at the Merseburg University of Applied Sciences. "There is often a lack of qualified specialists to adapt the structures."
