North Rhine-Westphalia: Ministers: stories of animals and family

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - For the nationwide reading day on Friday, two NRW ministers also wanted to open books with stories for children in a daycare center and in a school. School Minister Dorothee Feller (CDU) wanted to read the book "The Snail and the Humpback Whale" to students at the municipal elementary school "Die Brücke" in Neuss, according to her ministry. Children and Youth Minister Josefine Paul (Greens) was expected in the nature kindergarten "The Wild Boar Gang" in Langerwehe (Düren district). She chose the picture book "Das alles ist Familie", which deals with various forms of family.

The Reading Day is an initiative in which the weekly newspaper "Die Zeit", the Reading Foundation and the Deutsche Bahn Foundation are involved. Since 2004, this has been a sign of the importance of reading aloud every year in November. The IQB education trend had recently identified significant weaknesses in reading skills in many fourth graders.
