Saxony-Anhalt: Miniature Park "Kleiner Harz" goes into winter break

Wernigerode (dpa/sa) - The Miniaturenpark Wernigerode welcomed around 146,000 visitors this season. This is the highest number since the end of the State Garden Show in 2006, a spokeswoman for the park said when asked. Now the winter break is coming up, dismantling is underway. Around 60 miniature structures are brought to the winter quarters by forklift and lifting platform, where they are cleaned, repaired and then given a fresh coat of paint and varnish. The miniature world "Kleiner Harz" is about 1.5 hectares in size. The miniatures on display were recreated on a scale of 1:25, such as the Wernigerode Town Hall, the Goslar Imperial Palace or the Halberstadt Cathedral.

The small steam locomotives, trams and freight trains that otherwise make their rounds through the miniature landscape also go through a general check in winter. The locomotives have to be completely disassembled, the gearbox cleaned and oiled and small parts replaced. The park's team of gardeners and craftsmen winterize the beds, plant new tulip bulbs in the ground, trim hedges and trees.

There are already plans for the new 2023 season: According to the spokeswoman, there will be two new apps with which guests can experience the park interactively and take audio tours. Puzzles or a mini-game could be solved on relevant miniatures. In addition to the adult visitors to the park, children and young people should also be addressed.
