Magdeburg (dpa/sa) - In Saxony-Anhalt, a new property tax return has only been submitted for about every second property. This was announced by the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday. According to the information, owners only have a good two months to submit their declaration to the tax authorities. This must be done by January 31, 2023. Nationwide, the submission of the new property tax return affects a good one million properties.
The background is that from 2025 a new calculation of the property tax in Germany should take effect. This is done on the basis of information that all owners must submit according to the ministry.
Usually it is about the land and living space, the type of building, the year of construction and the so-called standard land value. According to the information, the owners must enter the data electronically in the online portal "Elster" or at the Federal Ministry of Finance. Almost 36 million properties are to be revalued nationwide.
The tax authorities have been receiving the data since July 1st. The specification that the online should be done has met with criticism from property owners in view of its practicability. According to the Ministry of Finance, declarations can also be made by property owners using an accountant or an open market tax software provider.
