Stendal (dpa/sa) - The fire brigade has been called again to forest fires in Saxony-Anhalt. In the Stendal district, a pine forest on an area of about one hectare between Schönfeld and Kamern was affected on Monday morning, the police said. A short time later, a forest fire broke out between Sandau and Havelberg in an area of around 5000 square meters. The cause of the fire is still unclear. The fire brigades were on site with a large contingent to fight the fire. According to initial estimates, damage of around 6,000 euros arose in both cases.
In the district of Stendal, as elsewhere in Saxony-Anhalt, there is a high risk of forest fires. According to the Landeszentrum Wald, warning level four of the five possible applies in the region. In the past few weeks, there have been local forest fires in the country, such as in the Harz Mountains.
