Lutherstadt Eisleben (dpa/sa) - When a truck collided with a car on the B180 near Lutherstadt Eisleben, the 61-year-old truck driver died. According to the police, the truck hit a car coming from Rothenschirmbach near the B80 junction on Monday morning. The truck then left the road, crashed through a guardrail and fell down an embankment. The truck landed on its roof. The 61-year-old succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident in the Mansfeld-Südharz district. The exact cause of the accident was still unclear as of Monday afternoon.
The driver was reportedly seriously injured in the collision and taken to hospital by rescue workers. Another driver suffered a shock and was treated as an outpatient.
Police say the road was closed until 3 p.m. because of the accident. In addition to the police and rescue workers, several fire brigades, mountain services and the oil rescue service were also on site. The resulting property damage amounts to around 150,000 euros.
