Saxony: Association calls for vaccination officers in Saxon nursing homes

Leipzig (dpa/sn) - The Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services (bpa) is calling for special officers to increase the number of booster vaccinations against the corona virus in Saxon nursing homes. "Central responsibilities at the vaccination centers create simple coordination and lead to faster booster vaccinations for those in need of care," said bpa state chairman Igor Ratzenberger on Wednesday. So-called vaccination officers can organize mobile vaccinations in old people's and nursing homes.

The aim is to improve the exchange between the facilities and the vaccination centers. Because the highest possible rate of fourth vaccinations is important to protect particularly vulnerable groups, the association said.

In Ratzenberger's view, the pressure to act is particularly high in Saxony. The majority of people in care facilities there have not yet been immunized a fourth time. Bavaria had only recently introduced such vaccination officers.
