Saxony: Attorney General Martin Uebele introduced into office

Dresden (dpa / sn) - Minister of Justice Katja Meier (Greens) ceremonially inaugurated Saxony's new Attorney General Martin Uebele. "Anyone who wants to fill the office must also have foresight, a sense of responsibility and empathy. You have all these skills to a large extent," said Meier at the inauguration on Thursday in Dresden. On February 1, the 62-year-old succeeded Hans Strobl, who retired after almost five years in office. Because of the corona pandemic, the official inauguration was postponed to November 3rd.

Uebele has worked in the Saxon judiciary since 1991 and was most recently President of the Dresden District Court. Previously, he was Vice President of the District Court of Dresden, Chief Public Prosecutor of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Görlitz and President of the District Court of Chemnitz.

The Attorney General is responsible for supervising all five Saxon public prosecutor's offices with a total of more than 1,000 employees. He himself is responsible for investigations into criminal proceedings such as state security offences, peace treason, high treason, treason against the state and threats to external security. One of the major projects that Uebele is expecting is the introduction of electronic criminal proceedings files, which should be completed by January 1, 2026.
