Saxony: Autumn balance of the weather service: Saxony coolest federal state

Offenbach/Leipzig (dpa/sn) - Saxony was the coolest federal state in Germany this autumn. Nevertheless, the temperatures were far too mild in a long-term comparison, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Wednesday after the first evaluation of the results of its measuring stations. On average, the temperatures between September and November in Bavaria were 10.0 degrees and thus 1.3 degrees above the value of the internationally valid reference period from 1961 to 1990.

Autumn brought Saxony the warmest October apart from 2001 and an unusually sunny November. The sun shone for almost 400 hours - compared to a long-term average of 319. The autumn was also comparatively damp, with slightly more precipitation than usual.

Overall, autumn in Germany was the third warmest since the nationwide measurements began in 1881. But a second assessment - for a meteorologically unusual period - is also possible: "Never since 1881 has the period from January to November been as warm in Germany as it was in 2022 "Said DWD spokesman Uwe Kirsche in Offenbach. The average is 11.3 degrees Celsius. The previous high was in 2020 with 11.1 degrees for this period.
