Dresden (dpa/sn) - The Dresden Philharmonic could attract attention in an important supporting role at the Oscar ceremony on March 12 in Los Angeles. In the film "TÁR" by director and author Todd Field, starring Cate Blanchett, the Philharmonie acts as a film orchestra in the truest sense of the word. Parts of the strip were created in September 2021 in the Kulturpalast Dresden - the venue of the Philharmonie - one musician and one musician were given speaking roles. The orchestra wants to celebrate the nationwide cinema release of "TÁR" on March 2nd in the Schauburg film theater, the Philharmonie announced on Wednesday. The film will be shown as part of the Berlinale on Thursday.
In "TÁR" the two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett (53) embodies the first chief conductor of a large German orchestra. The strip is now nominated for six Oscars. Blanchett recently won the British Film Awards Bafta and a Golden Globe for Best Actress in this role.
"When the inquiry came, we were of course completely surprised, after all, being involved in a Hollywood film production is not our core business (...). There are certainly only very few orchestras that can ever play such a prominent role in cinema films." , stressed Philharmonie director Frauke Roth.
