Saxony: Incidence of 170.5 at a similar level as a week ago

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The official corona incidence in Saxony is at a similar level as in the previous week. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 170.5 on Thursday. A week ago the value was 179.1. Nationwide, the current incidence was estimated at 254.3.

Experts have been assuming for some time that the value does not fully reflect the infection situation because not all infected people can be tested. However, only positive PCR tests are included in the statistics.

The highest value for the 13 Saxon regions was reported for the city of Leipzig with 221.0, the lowest with 105.9 for the district of Görlitz.

According to the RKI, a good 1.925 million infections have been registered nationwide since the pandemic began in March 2020. 16,502 people have died from or with a Sars-CoV-2 infection.
