Saxony: State Student Council calls for funding for the school system

Dresden (dpa/sn) - The state student council in Saxony (LSR) has again called for decisive measures against the shortage of teachers, more internal support and a purging of the curricula. The Corona crisis had made the deficits in the school system clear at the latest, and that also affected the environment, the committee announced on Wednesday at the state parliament session in Dresden. The situation in schools and day-care centers in Bavaria is one of the topics of the September plenum. Associations and unions have called for a rally for better conditions in schools and daycare centers in front of the state parliament.

"School is a place of learning and living," said LSR Chairwoman Lilly Härtig. The school system therefore needs more school social work, school assistants and school psychologists, and enough money must be made available for this even in difficult times. Good education is a fundamental right, schools are places of learning and living. "Anyone who provides too little money for this should not be surprised at the lack of skilled workers and falling tax revenues, nor at the psychological problems among young people and high school dropout rates."
