The seven champagne families (1/7): icons, from father to son

Effervescent father of the new wave of winegrowers, Anselme Selosse has produced signature cuvées in Avize, both sensory and artistic, with body, but also a soul. His values live today in his son Guillaume on what nature gives each year, from the most appropriate gesture: the cuvée Version Originale bounces on sumptuous iodized bitters. Le Bout du Clos deploys the generous texture of Ambonnay punctuated by a very exciting saline and earthy finish.

Neighbor Pascal Agrapart, joined by his son Ambroise, is not to be outdone with a remarkable range of Côte des Blancs: the creamy cream of Avizoise 2013, the chiseled depth of the chalk of Minéral 2010, or even the energy Telluric Venus 2007 each time restore the brilliance of their original soil.

Equally spectacular are the vintages of Francis Égly, demiurge of Pinot Noir. They pulverize the existing benchmarks on Bouzy, Verzy, Verzenay and, above all, Ambonnay. This thoughtful winemaker produces a stratospheric Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes. His children, Clémence and Charles, returned to the estate then slashed the new Bisseuil cuvée with its luminous "Chardonnaysque" breath.

Domain Selosse Original version

Noble texture, mixing silkiness and tension with a final flight that is both creamy and saline. We succumb to so much brilliance, especially as superb chalky bitters bring a touch of spiritual magic and a real artistic dimension. 297 €

Domaine Agrapart The 7 Crus

The mouth with a mischievous gaiety, remains incisive and creamy. More smoky flavors make the final minerality vibrant with a tangy zest of citron, magnified by the final saline touch, that of the right line. Exceptional value for money. 35 €

Egly-Ouriet The First Fruits

A blend of equal parts Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, this cuvée puts the Egly back in the center of the village of Trigny, with a palate with a perfect balance between luminous vinosity and effervescence. A few candied fruits rub against the sharp relief which becomes radiant as it intensifies in the glass. Superb value for money. 34 €
